Back

Happy feast of Saint Brocard. He was Carmelite prior of Mount Carmel. Once elected as prior, Brocard asked Saint Albert, the patriarch of Jerusalem, to draw up a rule for the monks. This rule, established in 1195, became the foundation for the Carmelite Order.

The Shrine is served by the Carmelites.

Saint Brocard, pray for us.

There are two images of Saint Brocard at the Shrine. In the image above is Saint Albert giving the Carmelite 'way of life' (Rule document) to Saint Brocard on Mount Carmel – an icon at the National Shrine of Saint Jude. For more information and to see the other image, please view our pages about the Shrine, here.

Carmelite books and prayer cards, here.
